Abstract

At the same time that human rights are conditions for guaranteeing the right of each particular culture, they are requirements of a universal nature, aimed at protecting the human dimension of man as such. This complex reality is intensified in contemporary society, in which the “cultural shock” is increasingly evident, fast and personal relationships are ephemeral. In this sense, this text aims to discuss the universality of human rights in the context of multicultural societies, without sticking to specific cultural contexts. In the end, it is pointed out that it is essential to move towards intercultural dialogue, under the risk of losing sight of the fact that there is a dimension of the human being that cannot be violated without he evading his own humanity.
