Abstract

This research is derived from an undergraduate monograph on the subject of symbolic gender violence in legal institutions, specifically in the Public Defender's Office of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (DPE-RS). Therefore, the research problem is to observe the potential presence of symbolic violence experienced in the work environment by women who occupy the positions of public defenders in that institution. Its hypothesis derives from Pierre Bourdieu's theory that such violence is present in the most diverse social relations between genders, so that its personification occurs through a properly symbolic and naturalized dimension. Thus, the research is subdivided into three stages. The first part intends to scientifically analyze, through bibliographic research, the theoretical concept of symbolic violence and of the male dominance over the female, especially when it comes to the professional aspect. The second stage talks briefly about Rio Grande do Sul’s Public Defender’s Office (DPE/RS), based on semi-structured interviews with open questions, on which the speech analysis and the monographic methods were used.
